Diana Faidy and the Society of the Golden Section

Searching for members or newsletters of the Society of the Golden Section

As a 'youngster' in my 20s (in the early 1980s) I had the good fortune to "fall in" with a teacher of the Golden Canon (we should call it!), named Diana Faidy, who in her youth had been a tall beauty, a dancer, and a follower of Gurdjieff, and later a board member of the Taliesin Fellowship (after Frank Lloyd Wright's death).

She married an architect named Abel Faidy, who had studied the 'divine ratio' and used it in his drawings and plans. Diana must have been in her 80s when I met her, but she had taken on the mission through her "Society of the Golden Section" to pass along this knowledge to young designers and architects in Chicago. I will always regret lending the large folder full of handouts from her classes to a colleague at one time, who later 'forgot' that she had borrowed them... But the essence has stayed with me!

The meetings of the Society were part art history, analyzing the proportions of the facade of the Coliseum, or Palladio's San Giorgio Maggiore, part practicum with compass and straightedge, and part mystical transmission, somehow from the "Hidden Masters" or something like that!

When Diana died, nobody could find any of the records of the Society and it immediately evaporated. I've searched for years to find anyone who might have been there, so I'd be able to copy their handouts!

Please contact me at peterf at mac.com if you have information about Diana or the Society!

Perhaps also known as "Society for the Golden Section" or "Society of the Golden Proportion" "Society of the Golden Mean" "Society of the Divine Proportion"
