Peter's Haiku for the Seasons...
and a few other topics...

Roma - Autumn Equinox 2002

Ancient columns stand
First rain falls -- fine autumn mist
over two thousand years

 Net once filled with stars.
On the branch a cardinal sings
 I lay listening.

 PF 9jun2001

 the webmaster asks
 does Andrew have some photos
 for this June project?

 or will it become
 a July experience...
 either way is fine!

 Ah, it is spring,
 Great spring it is now,
 Great, great spring --
 Ah, great --

 Basho (1644-94)

Haiku for Typographers

serifs are all wrong
spacing is terrible too
out out you damned font

Of course, a true haiku should have a reference to nature and the season...

like a ruined leaf
under the winter's long snow
this type looks like hell

or

pied drawer of type
a reminder of the stones
on my garden path

Spring 2002

Dedicated to Wm. Blake -- on viewing an image of 10000 galaxies in a Hubble Photo

 A thousand galaxies
in a grain of summer sand.
 How can I sleep now?

Warm October Eve
With my cup of steaming tea
A beautiful smile...

here's the haiku for spring 2001
----------
Under the sodden snow
The spring rains of March become
brilliant crocuses

Binary millennium
all ones and zeroes
after many snows a thaw.

------------------------

Of course, 10101 is '21' decimal... Happy 2001!

Last full moon of Spring
All night long the cricket sings
I gaze to the West

A new haiku for summer 2001.... (by the ancient poet -- me)

spring puddle splashes:
my sandal a tiny lake
as I walk to town.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

forsythia blooms
finding with slender fingers
the yellow blossom

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

in the brilliant sun
the long hot road finds comfort
with the right sandal
